How To Go From Curly To Frizz Free Straight Hair Tutorial - Natural Hair Straightening Routine

Wednesday, February 07, 2018

The video you see above is a tutorial of my current hair straightening routine. In this video I show how I go from frizzy, unruly curly hair to frizz free, sleek & shiny straight hair. I don't straighten my natural curls often, but when I do I always use my go-to products by Garnier.

Before starting the process of straightening my curls, i like to start off with freshly washed, detangled hair. In the shower i make sure to rinse out any conditioner left in my hair and using a towel I dry off some of the water until it is damp and not soaking wet.

To prevent my hair from curling back up and frizzing up, I use Garnier's Sleek And Shine Leave In Conditioning Cream. I have been using this cream when straightening for many years because it helps keep my hair smooth by controlling frizz in the humidity. I apply about a quarter size amount to each side of my head and distribute it all throughout my hair.

After applying the leave in conditioning cream, I used Garnier's Smooth Air Dry Anti Frizz Cream for added frizz prevention. I've never used this cream before but I decided to give it a try since Im going to be air drying my hair prior to using heat. The reason i am air drying first is because I find that putting heat directly to wet hair can create a lot of smoke.

Before I begin to straighten, I like to use Garnier's Sleek And Shine Brazilian Smooth FlatIron Express as a heat protector. This leave in balm protects your hair from heat up to 450 degrees! I have used this as my heat protectant from over 2 years now because I absolutely love how it leaves my hair smooth for longer. Also I find that it helps cut down my straightening time in almost half because i get the pin straight style I want with less strokes of the flatiron.

Once I have prepped my hair for the styling process, I like to go in with my Felicia Leatherwood detangling brush to help evenly distribute the products throughout my hair as well as to make sure there are not any knots or tangles left behind before I finally start straightening.

To blow out my natural curly hair, I use Conair's 3 in 1 Styling Dryer on the high setting. I love using this dryer because it comes with comb attachments which easily glides through my textured hair. First I start with the wider toothed comb attachment called the "detangling "comb.  After a few passes on small sections of hair, I switch out the comb to the finer toothed comb called the "styling" comb to make my hair even straighter. I do this until my entire head has been blown out straight.

After blowing out my hair, I use Conair's Infiniti Pro Flatiron get my hair to be the sleekest it can be. Using a rat tail comb, I take small sections of my hair and follow it with the flat iron. Section by section I continue to pass the flatiron through until my hair is as straight as i like it.

Lastly for much needed shine, I love to use Garnier's Sleek & Shine Anti Frizz Serum. I take a couple pumps of the serum, rub it in between the palms of my hands, then distribute it throughout my entire hair. To seal in the shine and for long lasting smoothness, I go over my hair once more with the flatiron.

Thats it! It's a little bit of a long process, but the results are absolutely worth it! I must admit before I started straightening I was somewhat hesitant and now I can see myself straightening more often about every 2-3 months compared to every 3-4 months.

If you have never tried Garnier's Sleek and Shine or Brazilian Smooth collection, I can truly say I recommend you give it a shot! Your going to be pretty impressed with your final results!
